Mojito

Mojito (1920-1930)

The Mojito’s birthplace is believed to be La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana; however, nobody knows for sure.

It was one of Hemingway’s favourite drinks and one of the most popular drinks worldwide.

How to make mojito

Prep Time 2 minutes
Total Time 2 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz white rum
  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice
  • ¾ oz simple syrup
  • 1 mint sprig
  • 8-10 mint leaves
  • Soda water

Instructions

    1. In a tall mixing glass, muddle the mint leaves, simple syrup, and the lime juice on the bottom of the Collins glass.
    2. Add rum and fill with crushed ice. Stir it and a top splash of soda water.
    3. Garnish with one mint sprig.

Notes

Put the mint between the palms of your hands and slap it to break the veins and release the flavour.

Some people prefer to prepare the drink in a mixing glass, shake it and strain it over crushed ice.

Many hotels in Havana also add some Angostura bitters to the drink to cut the sweetness.
